Irish dancing is traditional Gaelic or Celtic dance forms that originated in Ireland. It can be performed as a solo or in groups of up to twenty or more trained dancers. In Ireland, Irish dance is part of social dancing or may be for formal performances and competitions.
It is performed traditionally with intricate footwork and is most known for the dancers performing with a stiff upper body. Unlike other dance forms, Irish dancers do not move their arms or hands so that footwork is accented.
Painting and Drawing Studio
Instructor: Deb Stanton
Stay tuned for next class session dates!
Painting and Drawing Studio(age 18+) This Studio course is designed for both beginners and experienced artists who desire to produce art in two-dimensional drawing or painting media, with instruction given individually according to the participant’s needs. The course offers an introduction to the basics of painting and drawing for beginners, and it provides a chance for more experienced artists to work within a group setting, with
individualized instructor feedback to help problem-solve. This studio time offers enrichment through exposure to the varied approaches of the individual participants; we learn from each other. For planning purposes, beginners should contact the instructor before the first session.Work will be done from observation (from still life or photographs) and will utilize your choice of media. Suggested are acrylics, water-based oils, oils, watercolor, or pastels and/or other drawing media.Experimental media are also welcomed.
Beginners in drawing should come to the first class with paper or sketchbook, pencil, eraser and smallruler, prepared to start guided drawing exercises to develop skills that build on each other. Instruction
for beginners in drawing will cover approaches to line (contour) drawing, shading, perspective, composition development, portraiture, and drawing in color.
Experienced artists who plan to draw should come to the first class prepared to work with their own preferred drawing supplies on a project of their own choosing.
Beginning painters will be given the following information on the first night (followed by guided learning through doing, in the classes that follow): characteristics of different painting media, information about
materials and supplies, color theory and pigment suggestions, painting techniques, and composition. Beginner painters may come prepared to start the preliminary sketch on their first painting if
they do not yet have paints and need information about supply purchases.
Materials needed are: paints,
non-allergenic solvent for oil painters, brushes, palettes or palette paper, support (canvas or prepared
paper or board), and source photograph. A still life is provided for those who want to use it. Most instruction will be offered through individual positive critiques for beginners and experienced
artists. Discussions of light, form, color theory, and composition. Email deborah@stanton.newl.com for more info
